Branch Brook Park

I grew up in Newark NJ a short walk from Branch Brook Park. The Cherry Blossom festival has begun. I spent a lot of time there as a youth, it is one of my favorite places.

Near the Bloomfield Ave. entrance to the park was Louis and Ting a Ling a place that served Italian Hot dogs and home made Lemon Ice as well as orange aid.
For those of you not from Newark an Italian Hot Dos is a New Jersey classic hot dog, with fried potatoes, peppers and onions, served with deli mustard on a quarter of a large roll of Italian "Pizza" bread (sort of a fat pita). Rivals Jimmy Buff’s and Dickie Dee had their versions all good but I think Ting a Lings’ were the best.

Their classic Lemon-Ice is nothing like that frozen colored sugar water now being sold in pushcarts. It had lemon pulp, seeds and zest with a little sugar added, the experience is unforgettable.
